F&Q
How quickly are initial enquiries for counselling dealt with?
Our aim is to reply within 24 hours to any email enquiries. Telephone and text enquiries are usually responded to within the same working day.
What therapeutic approaches to counselling do you offer?
Both of our approaches have evolved based on our professional experience and ongoing training. We predominantly offer person-centred counselling. Please see our personal profiles for individual areas of experteese.
How do I know when to finish counselling?
During the sessions work between counsellor and client will naturally progress and as an ending is neared this is spoken about within the sessions. This will involve discussions around the ending and the formation of a plan for this based on each individuals needs. Notice of between two and four weeks would ideally be required for an appropriate ending to take place.
What happens if I have to cancel an appointment?
If you are unable to make an appointment for any reason please inform us in good time and we will make every effort to reschedule as soon as possible if this is what is wanted. If less than 24 hours notice is provided then you will still be charged the full price of the session. You will not be charged for sessions if your therapist is away or forced to cancel.
What happens in a session?
A standard format would be a conversation sitting face to face, in which you are free to speak about whatever you wish, in complete confidence. Our approach is entirely non-judgemental and focuses on you as a unique individual. Sometimes the conversation will flow; sometimes it may move into silence. The sessions are client led and we are aware that some people find it difficult to open up through talking and so there are various other activities that can be done in order to help clients feel at ease and engage.
What happens at the first appointment?
Our first session consists of a contract outlining:
What are your Fees?
Fees for sessions range from £40-£55 depending on session type (eg counselling or supervision)
Cancellation given with less than 24 hours notice will still be charged.
You are not tied into any fixed time periods, we can be as flexible as each client deems necessary.
How long do sessions last?
An individual session is 50 minutes long and begins at the time booked. If you arrive after the start time, the time you have lost will not be made up at the end of the session.
Do you receive regular supervision?
Yes. We both have ongoing supervision with qualified clinical supervisors.
Do you early morning, evening or weekend appointments?
Daytime and evening appointments are always available (depending on practitioner). We also offer limited weekend appointments.
What about confidentiality?
Our work is confidential. In exceptional cases, (eg. if a client reveals current abuse of children or intention to cause serious physical harm to him/herself or others), counsellors have a professional and ethical duty to inform clients that they may find it necessary to take this information outside of counselling. For this reason, we may request the name and address of your General Practitioner. Any action is discussed with you first. We receive regular supervision but clients personal identities are not revealed.
Do you work with people from the LGBTQ+ community?
Yes we do. However depending on the circumstances sometimes it is advisable to consult with a practice that specialises in sexual and / or gender issues.
Our aim is to reply within 24 hours to any email enquiries. Telephone and text enquiries are usually responded to within the same working day.
